You said "Yes!"

Your take a moment, realize you are now engaged and will be marrying your best friend! You call your parents, your friends and everyone close to you. You are on cloud 9, start planning the details from your engagement party to the wedding. You are sure of every detail, but have no clue where to start when it comes to taking engagement photos.

Ive always been the one behind the camera. So when it came time for my own engagement photos, even I felt awkward. But with these tips and tricks, I'm here to help you go into your engagement photo session more comfortable, and leaving more involve with your fiancé.

Tip #1 - What To Wear To Your Engagement Photos?

Nothing! Just kidding! But seriously, you don't want to be thinking about your outfit during your photos. You don't want to be uncomfortable and always adjusting it. Here is what you should know about picking your outfit(s).

Don't match your fiancé, complement each other. Instead of wearing the same colors, wear colors that are complementary to each other. This will make you look more comfortable, natural and not forced.

Match your environment. Think about where you are taking your photos: are you in the mountains, your home, a cafe, an opera house? Think about what you would wear if you were in that environment naturally.

Don't let your patterns or colors fight the environment. Sticking to neutral colors is always the best to go when you are unsure. Tans, blush, grey and cream are a great way to fit into most environments. If you are worried about a pattern, try sticking to a texture or even a dress that is fun to move around/toss. Outfits with movement can make for a fun, dramatic and whimsical feel (especially if that's the mood you are wanting to capture)

Layers! I can't express this enough. You can get a wide verity of storytelling photos when you can add a scarf, throw a jacket over your shoulder or kiss behind a hat. Even if you don't know if a layer would make a difference, bring it incase your photographer has a fun idea! you may not even need to use it, but it never hurts to have an other option.

Here is a great example of how a photographer can give a photo a different look/mood with a change of a jacket. Both are great options, but this gives you the option to play around with your environment, and even give you a wider variety when it comes to selecting the photo that you chose to have as your save the dates!

Tip #2 - Relax Telluride Wedding Photographer Engagements and Elopements

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE will feel nervous, awkward or lost when it comes to getting your photos taken. Don't be hard on yourself! We as a photographer are there to walk you through everything and show you how much fun you can have. The most important thing you can do is relax, and just be yourself! There is always a high possibility that not everything is going to go according to plan! We are even happy to play your favorite songs on a bluetooth speaker to help you and your fiancé connect and be in the moment.

Let that one hair stand fall out of place. As a photographer we can use this "imperfections" to capture a genuine moment, just imagine a photo of your fiancé sweetly brushing it back.

"Nothing could have been done to prevent these small mishaps from taking place—yet none of it actually mattered on the actual day of our wedding. In fact, they have become some of my favorite stories to retell years later. If there’s one important lesson I learned, it’s that regrets are pointless, and expecting perfection is both exhausting and unreasonable." -Madeleine Coyne (Variety Magazine)

Remember, we are here to help pull out the sweet, genuine moments that you will look back on forever.

Tip #3 - Chose a location that fits you!

If someone were to describe a place you and your fiancé would be, where would that be? Are you both adventurous and outside? Are you both big readers and always have your nose in a book? Do you go out for a fun night of dancing often?

Don't put yourself in an environment that you are uncomfortable in. If you are most comfortable outdoors, let's go for an adventure! If you want the woodsy, cozy look, but from the comfort of the indoors, let's make it happen!

By choosing a location/environment that you and your fiancé can be your true self! But I will say this, if you both are wanting to get out of your comfort zone, let us know! We are happy to help get you the photos you are wanting and making you both feel comfortable. Comfort is the biggest key in achieving photos that you will love.

You are going to be more comfortable and happy in a place that you and your fiancé relate to.

Tip #4 - Bring a Furry Friend

Your pet is your best friend! They are your family! It is ok to let them be apart of your day! I absolutely love taking photos of a couple and their dog! This will help you and your fiancé bring out your true self. Couples tend to feel comfortable and natural when they have their furry friend along for the ride!

Before you know it your wedding day is today, and you about to start your next chapter. So soak in all the moments, planned or not.
